Information for Caregivers, Patient Care Assistant, Barbers, and Child Care Providers

TB testing must be completed yearly and in a timely manner. Employers may require confirmatory testing for TB, Chest X-ray, a TB Questionaire, and/or a physical exam. Please contact your employer about specific guidelines regarding your requirements for work.

Tuberculosis Testing Guidelines

Many employers require a two-step skin test which starts with an injection in each arm. These injections test for exposure to Tuberculosis and a positive skin reaction does not necessarily mean presence of tuberculosis. TB Skin tests must be read 48-72 hours from the date of injection. Failure to return to the clinic for a skin test reading will require that the PPD test is repeated.

For patients with a positive skin test reaction, a Chest X-ray must be done to clear you for Tuberculosis. Chest X-ray results are read by licensed Radiologists at Diagnostic Imaging and results are available in 3-5 days after the X-ray is taken.

For more information on tuberculosis skin testing (PPD), please refer to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website:

Basic Physical Exams:

Basic physical exams are done by our providers to provide a “physician’s health statement” which declares a patient’s ability to work. Our providers reserve the right to determine whether a patient is able to work safely and to make further recommendations to optimize your health status.

DOT Physicals

Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals are performed daily. DOT physicals cost $40 and include a urinalysis test.

10-Panel Toxicology Tests

A 10-panel drug test is a urine test for certain drugs. If you are currently taking any medications, please make clinical staff aware prior to taking the drug test. A 10-Panel Toxicology Test tests for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, methamphetamines, phencyclidines, benzodiazepines, methadone, barbiturates, propoxyphene.
